Danae Koolen, M.T.O.M., L.Ac., HHP., is the Owner and Director of Peak Performance.

Danae, a native to Ocean Beach, opened Peak Performance Holistic Therapies in 1992. She began her career upon earning her Bachelor of Science Degree in Sports Medicine. She worked in a training room for three years preparing athletes for events and rehabilitation.

Since 1991 she has been practicing as a Holistic Health Practioner and holds a National Certification in Massage Therapy. She specializes in deep tissue, trigger point and therapuetic massage. Danae received her Masters Degree in Traditional Chinese and Herbal Medicine. She continues her studies observing in an acupuncture sports medicine clinic which treats many professional athletes. Danae treats a wide variety of disorders. Her emphasis is in pain relief and structural imbalances by a unique blend of sports, Traditional Chinese Medicine and massage therapy.

The general theory is based on the premise that there are pathways of Qi (pronounced chee) throughout the body that are related to the organs and musculoskeletal systems.

When energy flow is disrupted due to trauma, poor diet, medications, stress, or other conditions, pain or illness can be the result. Acupuncture focuses on correcting imbalances by inserting ultra-thin needles under the skin to stimulate specific points in the body. Stimulation unblocks and encourages the even flow of Qi, restoring the body's balance, relieving pain and other symptoms.
